Need to crack passwords? Rainbowtables!

Passwords are usually not maintained in plain text but as a hashed value. Even having those hash values does not allow you to find the plaintext password it was generated from easily. The only way would be a brute-force attack, generating hashvalues from a very large number of plaintext words (e.g. from a dictionary) until the outcome matches the known. Generating billions of hashvalue takes very long, so another way to do it faster is to create all the hashvalues in advance and store them in a database called rainbowtable. Everytime you need to crack a password, you can just look the hashvalue up in the table. Find the exact article and tools here.

How to rotate images without quality loss

As JPG is a lossy compression, you will usually loose quality when rotating your pictures in the windows explorer. There are several better ways to do that (e.g. photoshop). A very quick way is using the Lossless JPEG Rotator. It integrates in the explorer context menu and rotates your images without loss.

Hamachi VPN Software

I recently found a VPN freeware that allows to setup a VPN in 5 minutes. You basically just need to install the application and sign up. The setup installs a virual network device. With signing up, you'll receive a fix IP addess in the 5.0.0.0/8 network. After that, you can create arbitrary "virtual networks" just by providing a name and a password. Anyone running the same software can join these networks (knowing the password, of course). You'll see all the participants in a messenger-styled list and you're able to connect anybody who shares a virtual network with you. You can use basically every software like:

- network shares
- microsoft terminalserver
- VNC software
- network games

The best thing: this also works behind NAT routers, as it uses the skype-like P2P technology.
The software also runs on mac and linux.
